New consultants join Pretection with a wide range of backgrounds and experience. Through initial formal training programs, a common baseline is established and with learning, mentoring, experience, and guidance, consultants and analysts of all backgrounds quickly have opportunities to face new challenges and roles. There are no tenure-based requirements for advancement – the pace at which you advance is limited only by your demonstrated ability.

Research Manager
Research managers play an expanded leadership role on our client service teams. They act as a project manager within one of the defined industries, assuming primary responsibility for structuring the problem-solving and researching process, assigning work, coaching team members, and managing day-to-day interactions with clients.
In this role, people often choose to become more closely affiliated with a functional practice. With a practice affiliation, our consultants expand their knowledge contributions while continuing to build their team and client leadership skills.

Industry Principal
Recognized as "potential directors," industry principals begin to split their time among all projects within an industry, rather than working on projects at a time. At the same time, they become involved in client development and participate in most office and practice decision-making. They also continue to develop in-depth expertise in industry practice areas.
The role of industry principal is created to accelerate the development of exceptional people, offering them a greater measure of mentorship and rewarding them with some of the privileges and benefits traditionally reserved for directors.

Analyst
Some people begin their careers at Pretection as analyst. As experienced professionals, they bring profound knowledge of an industry or functional area to their roles. Analysts divide their time between client and knowledge-building work, though the mix will vary from person to person. The type of client work can vary as well. Many analysts go on to become experts in their sector or functional area.

Expert
Individuals advance from specialist to expert based on the pace of their knowledge development, internal and external reputation building, and ability to deliver impact to teams. Experts continue to grow as professionals and contribute to the firm. Depending on an expert's desires and the firm's needs, some experts go on to become industry principals.
